If your car has started making a knocking sound, here are the most common causes — and when it’s time to book it in with J & K's Mechanical. Common Causes of Knocking Sounds in Cars Engine Knocking (Detonation or Pre-Ignition) Engine knocking often sounds like a metallic pinging or tapping coming from the engine bay, especially when accelerating. Common causes include: Incorrect fuel type Carbon build-up in the engine Faulty spark plugs Engine timing issues Low-quality fuel Left unresolved, engine knock can cause serious internal engine damage. Low Engine Oil or Oil Pressure If your engine oil is low or old, moving components may not be properly lubricated, causing a knocking or tapping noise. Warning signs: Knocking gets louder as revs increase Oil warning light is on Engine feels rough or sluggish Regular servicing helps prevent this type of damage entirely. Worn Suspension Components A knocking noise over bumps or when turning is often related to suspension issues. Possible culprits include: Worn shock absorbers Loose or damaged sway bar links Ball joints or control arm bushes Ignoring suspension knocks can affect handling, braking, and tyre wear. Symptoms include: Knocking when steering left or right Grease visible around the wheels Vibration while driving CV joint failure can eventually leave you stranded. Brake-Related Knocking Noises Knocking sounds from the wheels can sometimes be caused by brake issues. This may happen if: Brake pads are worn or loose Anti-rattle clips are missing Calipers are sticking Brake noises should always be checked promptly for safety reasons. Is It Safe to Drive With a Knocking Sound? In most cases, no. New Car Service in Bundaberg

Engines that operate through internal combustion rely on large amounts of clean air to ensure the fuel burns properly and generates the power needed to drive the vehicle. At J & K's Mechanical in Bundaberg, we understand how vital it is to keep your car's air filter in good condition as part of protecting your engine's health. Your engine requires extremely clean air to function efficiently. Dirt, dust, and other particles entering the engine can cause serious damage. That’s where the air filter comes into play. It ensures the air entering the combustion chambers is clean, shielding key engine components such as the pistons and cylinders from wear and damage. Why Replace Your Air Filter? Save on Fuel Costs: Your engine requires the correct balance of fuel and air to run efficiently. A clogged air filter restricts airflow, causing your engine to run inefficiently – often referred to as ‘running rich.’ This not only puts additional stress on your engine but can also increase fuel consumption by up to 10%. No one likes spending more on petrol than necessary! Protect Your Engine: Over time, air filters become clogged and weaker, increasing the risk of damage. A damaged or overly dirty air filter can allow harmful particles to enter the engine, potentially leading to expensive repairs. Benefits of Replacing Your Air Filter: Extends the life of your engine Improves fuel efficiency Reduces vehicle emissions At J & K's Mechanical, we always check the condition of your air filter during every full car service. Whether it’s a major or minor service, or one that follows your manufacturer’s handbook or logbook guidelines, you can trust us to keep your engine running smoothly.

Keep your engine healthy with clean air filters. Improve fuel efficiency, reduce emissions, and extend engine life. Visit J & K's Mechanical for expert maintenance and reliable car servicing.
